What it is

Blastomino is a block puzzle played upside down.

The mass hangs from the ceiling. You fire pieces up into it from a launcher at the bottom of the screen, bouncing them off the walls to reach the gap you actually wanted. Complete a row and it clears — and anything the clear cuts loose falls out of play, which is where the real points are.

Miss too often and the mass grows down toward you. When it reaches the launcher, the run is over.

Screens

  • A run in progress: a mass of coloured blocks hangs from the ceiling and has grown most of the way down the board, with a dashed aim line running up from the launcher piece at the bottom.
Mid-run. The mass has grown down toward the launcher, and the aim line is out.
  • The New Game screen, offering Easy Start on a 6 by 12 board with one shape, Normal Game on 10 by 20 with ten shapes, and Hard Mode on 11 by 22 with twenty shapes.
Three ways in — the same game, joined at different points.
  • The Blastomino title screen: the name spelled out in coloured blocks above a neon perspective grid, with New Game, Shop, High Scores, Badges and Settings buttons.
The title screen, in one of twenty-five themes.

In the game

  • Aim and bounce

Drag to aim, tap to rotate, press BLAST to fire. Shots ricochet off the side walls, so the shot you want is often not the straight one.

  • The board grows

You start small, with nothing but dominoes. Trominoes arrive, then tetrominoes, then pentominoes — and the board gets bigger to fit them. Late on there are twenty shapes in play.

  • Time is a bank, not a countdown

Firing adds time to a reserve rather than spending it, so shooting quickly builds a cushion. Clearing rows pays time back.

  • Chain your clears

Clearing on consecutive shots multiplies everything. Ten in a row is worth hundreds of times a single clear, and nobody has done it yet.

  • Three ways in

Easy Start opens on a small board with one shape, for learning the aim. Normal Game drops you into the real thing. Hard Mode hands you every shape from the first shot.

  • 179 badges

For clears, streaks, precision shots, endurance and technique. Some are simple. Some have never been earned.

  • 25 themes

Neon, moonlight, jungle, deep sea, pastel, blueprint, and more. Every one recolours the whole game.
